INTRODUCTION

The reformation brought in the field of nursing by Florence Nightingale had resulted in a change in the outlook of nursing in India. A need was felt for professional nursing care for the British troops, which led to the establishment of Army Nursing Services in 1881 in Britain, subsequently, the Military Nursing Service in India started in March 1888, when the first batch of British Army Nurses arrived in India to serve in the hospitals for British troops. The nursing service was designated the Indian Army Nursing Service (IANS) in 1896. In 1902, Queen Alexandra became the first president of the British Army Nursing Service in United Kingdom and a year later IANS was converted into Queen Alexandra’s Military Nursing for India (QAMNS).

During the First World War, dire need of nursing care for Indian soldiers was recognized and a Temporary Indian Nursing Service (TINS) was started in 1914. Indian Military Nursing Service

On 01st October 1926, it was decided to have a permanent nursing service in the Indian Army and the nursing service for Indian troop hospitals came into being with a total number of 55 nurses. In 1927, the designation of the Nursing Service for Indian troop hospital was changed to Indian Military Nursing Service .With the outbreak of World war II in 1939, 313 nurses were sanctioned for the nursing services for the British Army stationed in India, including 55 nurses of the Indian Military Nursing Service.

Registration for online applications will open from- 10 June 2023 to 30 June 2023 on
Age Conditions - born between 1st October 1998 to 30 September 2006(both days inclusive)

Applications are invited from female candidates who have qualified NEET (UG)-2023, conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to four years BSc (Nursing) Course commencing in the year 2023 at Colleges of Nursing of Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). Candidates will be selected for admission at Colleges of Nursing based on the final merit cum choice. The final merit will be prepared using NEET (UG)-2023 score, Computer Based Test of General Intelligence, General English (TOGIGE), Psychological Assessment and Interview, and choice of institution subject to medical fitness and vacancies at each College.


lt is mandatory for all candidates desirous of seeking admission for BSc Nursing course at AFMS institutions to :

  1. Register and apply at the website https://joinindianarmy.nic.in/
  2. Qualify NEET (UG) - 2023 condubted by National Testing Agency (NTA)
  3. Appear for the screening process at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt on the given date if shortlisted to attend the same.

Eligibility Conditions

(a) Female candidates who are unmarried/divorcee/legally separated/widow without encumbrances.
(b) Nationality-Citizen of India
(c) Date of Birth-Born between 01 Oct 1998 and 30 Sep 2006 (both days inclusive).
(d) Educational Qualification - Educational Qualification. Candidate must have passed in the FIRST ATTEMPT, Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or equivalent (12 Years schooling) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany & Zoology) and English with not less than 50 % aggregate marks as a regular student from a Statutory/Recognized Board/University/Examining Body.
(e) Physical Standards:- Medical fitness for admission to BSc (Nursing) course will be decided by the medical board as per the standards and criteria prescribed and amended from time to time. The minimum height required for entry into Armed Forces for female candidates is 152 cm. Candidates from Hill and North Eastern States will be accepted with a minimum height of 147cm. An allowance for growth of 02 cm will be made for candidates below 18 yrs at the time of examination.
NEET (UG) 2023 score – Candidate seeking admission for BSc Nursing course at AFMS institutions will have to mandatorily qualify the NEET (UG) 2022 examination conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).
(f) SC/ST Candidates - It is mandatory to possess SC/ST certificate issued by competent authority from not below the rank of 1st class Magistrate/ Tehsildar /Sub Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or her family normally resides..
(g) NCC 'C' CandidatesCandidates, who have qualified NCC 'C', are required to upload their NCC 'C' certificate.

Screening Process.:

(a). Short listing of candidates:- The short listing of candidates will be done through NEET (UG) 2023 scores. The reference numbers of the candidates who are shortlisted for screening process will be displayed at the websitehttps://joinindianarmy.nic.in/ The shortlisted candidates will have to appear for ToGIGE, Psychological Assessment, Interview and Medical examination at Base Hospital Delhi Cantt. The admit card for the same can be downloaded from the above website.

Note: Request for change of date of screening process will NOT be entertained except under extreme circumstances.
(b) Verification of Documents All shortlisted candidates will be required to produce originals of all documents listed in the admit card at the time of screening process at BHDC. In case the candidate is not in possession of original certificates at the time of screening, she must produce an original receipt from the institution where the original documents are deposited. An undertaking to this effect must also be given by the candidates to produce all original certificates at the time of admission.
Note: The shortlisted candidates if not in possession of documents as per eligibility criteria or at any stage of the selection process, if it is found that the information provided has been willfully concealed or misrepresented will lead to disqualification from the selection process/loss of candidature.
(c) Test of General Intelligence & General English (TOGIGE). Test of General Intelligence & General English (TOGIGE) will be in the form of Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of 40 MCQs of two marks each for maximum marks of 80. There will be negative marks of 0.5 for every incorrect answer. These 40 questions will be required to be answered in 30 mins.
(d) Psychological Assessment and Interview. All shortlisted candidates will undergo psychological assessment and interview by a Board of Officers at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt. The candidates may be asked questions on the core subjects' up to Std XII, General Knowledge, Current affairs and their interests, hobbies etc.
Note: Due weightage will be given to candidates during interview for achievements in Sports at various levels and for the dependents of Officers/JCOS/ORS who are Serving/ESM/Killed in action.

(e) Medical Examination. All candidates have to be medically fit keeping in view, the specific training requirements, charter of duties and level of fitness desired for candidates to join MNS. All shortlisted candidates will undergo Special Medical Board (SMB) at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt. Candidates will be informed about their medical status on completion of medical examination. Candidates declared UNFIT by the Medical Board may appeal against the decision by depositing Rs 40/- (Rupees Forty only) by MRO. Application along with receipted copy of MRO must be presented by the candidate and should report to the concerned hospital for Appeal Medical Board (AMB) within 24 hours from the date of SMB.
Note: All candidates must be present for medical examination till the completion of Medical Board and declaration of their medical status. In case a candidate fails to be physically present during SMB/AMB, she will be declared UNFIT IN ABSENTIA. Any representation at a later date in writing or telephonically/ e-mail will not be entertained.

Final Selection. The final selection of a candidate will be based on the combined merit of NEET (UG) 2023 scores + TOGIGE + Psychological Assessment and Interview, subject to medical fitness. Merit List will be prepared and colleges will be allocated to the selected candidates based on the merit cum choice, subject to seats available at each college. The list of selected candidates will be published on the JIA website. The candidates are required to check the website regularly for updates. Admission to the Colleges:- The selected candidates shall execute an Agreement/Bond to serve in the Military Nursing Service (MNS), Armed Forces Medical Services at the time of admission. During training they will be provided with free ration, accommodation, uniform allowance and monthly stipend as per the rules amended from time to time. The date of declaration of result by respective University will be the date of Commission for the candidates. The commencement and completion of course depends on their respective affiliated University norms. On successful completion of BSc Nursing course of four years, the candidates will be granted Permanent/Short Service Commission in the Military Nursing Service, under the terms and conditions laid down for grant of such commission. The date of Commission determines the date of seniority in service among all candidates who have joined the course in the same year.

Withdrawal from the Course. In the event of withdrawal from the course, termination of training or refusal to accept Commission in the MNS when offered, the candidate will be liable to pay the bond money at a rate proportionate to the duration of time she has been trained in the institute. Any candidate withdrawing from the college after 7 days of admission [after 1600 hrs (4PM)] will have to pay Bond Money as per agreement bond executed by them at the time of admission to college.

How to apply:

  1. Interested candidates who have qualified NEET (UG) 2023 may register through https://joinindianarmy.nic.in/ which will be accessible after the declaration of NEET (UG) 2023 results. The candidates will be able to register ONLINE by providing name, mobile number, email id and other details. The scanned copy of the required documents also needs to be uploaded in the prescribed size and format. The candidate's email id will be the user id for this website and the candidate will select her own password. Candidates must keep a note of their username and password for accessing the website and for all future correspondence.
  2. Candidates are requested to make correction in the filled application form using the EDIT menu and ensure all corrections are made before clicking the SUBMIT button. Correction in the application will not be possible after final submission.
  3. All candidates (except SC/ST) will have to pay a sum of Rs 200/- only as application processing fee through ONLINE payment gateway. SC/ST candidates have to upload the documentary proof.
  4. On successful completion of online payment, a bank reference number (DU number) will be generated and a confirmation page will be displayed. The candidates may note the DU number for all future references (except SC/ST).
  5. Candidates may take a printout of the filled application for their own reference along with payment confirmation page.
  6. When the candidates will submit their application, a provisional registration number called Reference number will be generated. This number will be sent to the registered email id. The reference number of the candidates will be quoted in all future communications from this Dte.
  7. Candidates are requested to visit JIA website regularly for updates.

Important Note:-

  1. It is the individual responsibility of the candidate to ensure successful payment of the application fee. Receipt of DU number is not the criteria for successful payment; therefore candidates are requested to make sure that the application fee is debited from their bank account.
  2. Candidates must take the print out of the payment receipt and read it carefully before final submission of the online application form.
  3. Candidates must ensure correctness of information during the online application /form filling. Candidates must understand that, any attempt to willfully conceal or misrepresent the facts will lead to disqualification of candidature at any stage of selection process.
  4. It is the individual responsibility of the candidate to check for updates at www.joinindianarmy.nic.in (JIA) website, download the admit card for screening, check their email regularly on your registered mobile number and email id.

The aforesaid conditions are subject to modification, if deemed necessary.

No correspondence will be entertained from the candidates with regard to either the receipt of applications/status of applications/details or reasons for rejected applications. Hardcopy of the application will not be accepted.

Reasons for Rejection of Online Application are incomplete application, submission of more than one application, non-payment of application processing fee. No refund of application processing fees, in case paid more than once will be entertained.

The candidates are requested to have a functional phone number and email id till the selection process is completed. No request for change of mail id or phone number will be entertained.

Note: It is the responsibility of the candidates to ascertain their eligibility for admission. Having filled up the online application form or being called for the screening process does not necessarily mean acceptance of eligibility/ offer for admission. No intimation about non-selection or correspondence in this regard will be entertained. No seats will be kept vacant for candidates higher in merit in waiting list if they fail to report on the date and time on which they have been called for reporting to respective college.
